NLITED Summer School 2025 – An immersive learning experience on daylight
The NLITED Summer School 2025 is an intensive international program that blends theoretical training, design experimentation, and field-based activities to explore the role of daylighting in the renovation of historic buildings.
Over the course of eight days, participants engage in a dynamic learning journey combining lectures, hands-on projects, group work, and on-site exploration, all set in the unique context of Trento, Pieve Tesino, and Venice.
A pedagogical approach based on experience and interaction
The NLITED methodology is rooted in a learning-by-doing philosophy, where practical experience is the foundation for critical and reflective learning. The program includes:
-
Introductory seminars in Trento, with real-world case studies presented by universities, designers, and public institutions.
-
A technical tour in Venice, focusing on the perception and behavior of daylight in urban and heritage environments.
-
A week of immersive masterclasses in Pieve Tesino, hosted at the UNITUS Alpine Study Center, where participants:
-
learn tools and methods for daylight simulation;
-
engage with leading architectural firms and companies through case studies;
-
take part in thematic workshops on daylight metrics, visual comfort, light control, and integration with electric lighting.
-
Collaboration, interdisciplinarity, and group learning
Participants are organized into international working groups, supported by renowned experts and educators. Each group tackles a real case study – the daylight-based renovation of 16th-century buildings in Trento – applying techniques and concepts learned throughout the week.
Activities include multi-sensory field explorations (e.g., “Light–Sound Walk”), material and façade system demonstrations, company visits (e.g., Finstral), and product showcases (iGuzzini), with a strong focus on the integration of daylight and electric lighting in heritage contexts.
A growing international learning community
NLITED is more than a summer course – it is a gateway to a vibrant educational and professional network that connects students, researchers, universities, and companies working toward sustainable and human-centered lighting design.
The program concludes with a final event in Trento, where teams present their projects in front of local authorities, professionals, and invited guests, making it a moment of reflection, dissemination, and celebration.
