What is it?

The three-day boot camp in Viterbo offers an immersive learning experience tailored for beginners in daylighting design. Led by experienced instructors, participants engage in hands-on sessions and workshops, focusing on using daylight to enhance energy efficiency in architectural design. The program covers fundamental principles, simulation tools, and real-world applications, providing attendees with practical skills and foundational knowledge. This boot camp serves as an ideal starting point for those interested in entering the field, emphasizing the integration of natural light for sustainable and energy-efficient solutions

The winter school will be held in Italy, at Università degli Studi della Tuscia (UNITUS) from 7 to 10 January 2024.

What is the program?

 

The program spans three days and includes activities such as lectures, group work on a project, and a presentation of the works.

Where will it be held?

The Winter School will be held at the Università della Tuscia, in Viterbo. Via Santa Maria in Gradi, 4.

Teaching plan

7 Jan (Sunday): Registration and introduction

  • Afternoon:
    • Registration to the Winter School
    • Welcome activities and Introduction to the course

8 Jan (Monday): Introduction to Daylighting Design Basics

  • Morning:
    • Fundamentals of daylighting design and architecture
    • Basics of daylight and human well-being
  • Afternoon:
    • Understanding the principles of daylight modelling
    • Hands-on sessions using simulation tools for energy control

9 Jan (Tuesday): Practical Applications and Design Principles

  • Morning:
    • Principles of daylighting design
    • Analysis of successful daylighting design projects
  • Afternoon:
    • Workshop on practical daylighting design exercises for beginners
    • Case studies and real-world applications
    • Feedback sessions with instructors

10 Jan (Wednesday): Project Development and Presentation

  • Morning:
    • Collaborative daylighting design projects for beginners
    • Guidance from instructors and mentors
    • Preparation for project presentations
  • Afternoon:
    • Final presentation of projects
    • Peer review and feedback
    • Closing ceremony and certificate distribution

Accommodation

We have booked mini-apartments in this facility: Palazzo Grandori Alloggi Turistici.

The mini-apartments must be shared with two other students of the same gender (male or female). We offer accommodation with a kitchenette, so you can prepare your breakfast and dinner if you wish. If the accommodation offer is not your liking, you may consider attending school only and finding accommodation on your own (in this case the fee is 150€ instead of 300€).

 

Participation fee

You can participate in the winter school in two ways. (a) On-site participation with an immersive experience with other students and teachers, or (b) Online participation, living a remote experience but receiving the same level of preparation.

A) ON-SITE PARTICIPATION FEE

  • A1: Fee  for the WS with accommodation: 300 €
    • The rate includes
      • All the lectures and learning experience
      • Three nights in a mini-apartment with other colleagues
      • Catering on workshop days (no dinners)
      • Welcome Aperitivo on January 7th
  • A2: Fee for only the WS: 150 € 
    • The rate includes
      • All the lectures and learning experience
      • Catering on workshop days (no dinners)
      • Welcome Aperitivo on January 7th

B) ONLINE PARTICIPATION FEE

  • B1: Fee for the only attendance: 150 €
    • The rate includes
      • All the lectures and learning experience

 

ECTS points

The NLITED Winter School recognizes 3 ECTS to UNITUS students.
